What to do right now

Don't worry if you're not sure what to do, the steps below are enough.

Please keep Sora indoors and contact us immediately. Do not release her outside again.

If you need to transport her, use a pet carrier or a small ventilated cardboard box with air holes, lined with a towel or paper. If nothing else is available, a laundry basket secured with a towel can work temporarily.

If Sora is bleeding, weak, fluffed up and not moving much, breathing with her mouth open, tail-bobbing, unable to perch, or has been caught by a cat or dog, please take her to an avian or exotics vet urgently. Search results may include general vets, so please check that the clinic treats birds.

Any avian or exotic vet can safely hold her and contact us.

If possible, keep her in a calm room between 18°C and 27°C, giving her the option to keep out of drafts and direct hot sun.

Keep her away from perfumes, air fresheners, chemical fumes, aerosols, smoke and cooking fumes as these are highly toxic to birds.

Avoid petting/stroking below her neck; this can trigger hormonal/aggression responses.

Foods

Please do not force-feed her. Sometimes, eating a portion of her food that she's suspicious of in front of her may encourage her to begin eating. Teacups can make a suitable food/water bowl.

• Sliced apple (without seeds), berries, banana
• Small portion of cold plain cooked rice
